ในอีกทศวรรษข้างหน้า ประเทศไทยจะเป็นที่ที่อุดมความยั่งยืนทุกมิติและเป็นประเทศที่น่าอยู่แค่ไหน ขึ้นอยู่กับความสามารถในการเรียนรู้ธรรมชาติที่กำลังเปลี่ยนแปลงไป และพร้อมที่จะช่วยกันลดผลกระทบของการเปลี่ยนแปลงนั้น คุณคือความหวังของเรา ที่จะแสดงศักยภาพในการขับเคลื่อนครั้งสำคัญนี้ไปพร้อมกันทั้งภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชน และภาคประชาชน
สมาคมเครือข่ายโกลบอลคอมแพ็กแห่งประเทศไทย เครือข่ายด้านความยั่งยืนที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในประเทศ เตรียมจัดงาน "GCNT FORUM 2020: Thailand Business Leadership for SDGs” สัมมนาผู้นำภาคธุรกิจไทย ระดมพลังความยั่งยืน ฟื้นประเทศ หลัง COVID-19 ในโอกาสครบรอบ 20 ปีของเครือข่ายโกลบอลคอมแพ็กแห่งสหประชาชาติ และครบรอบ 75 ปีสหประชาชาติ
โดยได้รับเกียรติจาก พลเอกประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา นายกรัฐมนตรี เป็นประธานในพิธี และกล่าวปาฐกถาพิเศษหัวข้อ “วิถีคิดผู้นำในสถานการณ์วิกฤติ ประสบการณ์จากสถานการณ์ COVID-19”
พร้อมด้วยผู้นำด้านความยั่งยืนจากทุกภาคส่วนในไทย ทั้งผู้นำภาคธุรกิจ ผู้แทนองค์การระหว่างประเทศประจำประเทศไทย ผู้แทน UN Global Compact มาร่วมประกาศเจตนารมณ์ ในการทำงานร่วมกันเพื่อขับเคลื่อนประเทศไทยให้ฟื้นตัวได้ดีขึ้นกว่าเดิมและเติบโตอย่างยั่งยืน และสร้างแรงบันดาลใจผ่านการเสวนาในสี่หัวข้อ ได้แก่ สิทธิมนุษยชน แรงงาน สิ่งแวดล้อม และการต่อต้านการทุจริต ผู้นำจากหลายวงการที่ร่วมงาน อาทิ คุณศุภชัย เจียรวนนท์ นายกสมาคมเครือข่ายโกลบอลคอมแพ็กแห่งประเทศไทย คุณ Sanda Ojiambo ซีอีโอของ United Nations Global Compact คุณ Gita Sabharwal ผู้ประสานงานสหประชาชาติ (United Nations Resident Coordinator - UNRC) ประจำประเทศไทย และผู้บริหารระดับสูงชั้นนำจากองค์กรสมาชิก UN Global Compact ในประเทศไทย อาทิ เครือเจริญโภคภัณฑ์,กลุ่มบริษัท ปตท., กลุ่มมิตรผล, อินโดรามา เวนเจอร์ส, ไทยเบฟเวอเรจ, สภาอุตสาหกรรม พร้อมด้วยสภาองค์การนายจ้างแห่งประเทศไทย, องค์การบริหารจัดการก๊าซเรือนกระจก และ ตัวแทนจากสหประชาชาติสำนักงานประเทศไทย เป็นต้น
จึงนับเป็นครั้งแรกของประเทศไทยที่รวมสุดยอดผู้นำด้านการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน จากภาครัฐ ภาคธุรกิจ สหประชาชาติ และภาคประชาสังคม กว่า 200 ราย เข้าร่วมสัมมนาเพื่อผนึกกำลังในการทำธุรกิจอย่างยั่งยืนภายใต้วิถีใหม่ ตามหลักสากล 10 ประการของ UN Global Compact และเป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน (SDGs) ซึ่งการประชุมครั้งนี้จัดตามแนวทางการจัดงานที่ยั่งยืนของสำนักงานส่งเสริมการจัดประชุมและนิทรรศการ (สสปน.) และสหประชาชาติอีกด้วย

Global Compact Network Thailand to Host
“GCNT FORUM 2020: Thailand Business Leadership for SDGs”
On the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the UN Global Compact and the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, Global Compact Network Thailand, Thailand’s largest sustainability network, will host “GCNT FORUM 2020: Thailand Business Leadership for SDGs” under the theme “Recover World, Recover Thailand Better” to gather commitments from the private sector as well as all stakeholders to lead Thailand towards sustainability after COVID-19.
H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, will deliver the keynote speech entitled, “Leadership in Crisis Management: Experiences from COVID-19.”
For the first time in Thailand, more than 200 top leaders of sustainable development programs from the government, the business, the United Nations agencies in Thailand, and the civil society to demonstrate their leadership in driving sustainability in their organizations under the ‘New Normal.' GCNT advocates for members to adhere to the UNGC’s 10 Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest sustainability network, and the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, Global Compact Network Thailand in partnership with the United Nations Team in Thailand and Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) will organize “GCNT FORUM 2020: Thailand Business Leadership for SDGs” under the theme “Recover World, Recover Thailand Better.” Thailand’s largest sustainable development forum is to unite GCNT member organizations following the Ten Universal Principles of the UN Global Compact to restore Thailand’s economy after COVID-19 and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
“GCNT FORUM 2020: Thailand Business Leadership for SDGs” to organize the celebrations of both the 20th anniversary of the UNGC and the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. GCNT aims to gather sustainability leaders from all sectors in Thailand to declare their commitment to cooperate and lead recovery for Thailand to ‘Recover Better.’ They will also adhere to the UNGC’s 10 Universal Principles, which are divided into four areas: human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption while attempting to achieve the SDGs by 2030, particularly after the COVID-19 situation.
From the estimates by the United Nations, the lockdowns for prevention and containment of COVID-19 have affected more than 2.7 billion workers worldwide. The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimated that 25 million workers have been stripped of their employment while the number of individuals below poverty line will increase by 400-600 million across the world. Meanwhile, the consumer behaviors and business environment have changed and will continue to change: including, increasing use of digital technology in daily life; diminished business returns; a shift of the customers’ mindset to focusing on health and financial security rather than spending on luxury items. Heightened international and domestic healthcare measures have also affected the cost of production. Most of the businesses have no doubt operated in a survival mode and may do so into the near and medium term.
While the business has updated their strategies under the New Normal, one of the inevitable questions is what sustainable business practices would look like under this New Normal. Would business leaders need to adjust their sustainability strategies in response to the changing context? If such adjustment is needed, under these constraints caused by the crisis, would these challenges affect the progress we have made so far to achieving the 17 SDGs by 2030? What are required of the business leaders to steer their business to achieve both growth and responsible business practices?
His Excellency Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will preside over the ceremony and deliver the keynote address, “Leadership in Crisis Management: Experiences from COVID-19”. Participants are expected from the sustainability leaders, representatives of the UN agencies in Thailand, UN Global Compact, government agencies, the business sector, and civil society organizations. GCNT, as Thailand’s largest sustainability network, GCNT advocates for members to adhere to the UNGC’s 10 Principles covering four areas: human rights, labor protections, the environment, and anti-corruption. The 57 GCNT’s members, for example, Suphachai Chearavanont - Chairman of Global Compact Network Thailand, Sanda Ojiambo – CEO of UN Global Compact, Gita Sabharwal – United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, and leading CEO from GCNT’s member including Charoen Pokphand Group, PTT Group, Mitrphol Group, Bangchak, Pranda Group, ThaiBev, Thai Union Group, Thai Wah, and Indorama Ventures, government agencies and others organization such as The Federation of Thai Industrial, Employers’ Confederation of Thailand, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization, etc.
Ms. Thanyaporn Krichtitayawuth, Executive Director of Global Compact Network Thailand, said, “This event is a significant opportunity where leaders from all sectors will demonstrate their commitment to driving the sustainable development agenda in Thailand. Such commitment will also hopefully contribute to the recovery of Thailand’s economy after the COVID-19 crisis while supporting the country’s achievement towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030."
