สลดเจ้าหน้าที่เก็บกู้ “สังเวย” ซากระเบิดสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2
สลดเจ้าหน้าที่เก็บกู้ - บีบีซี รายงานวันที่ 21 ก.ย. ถึงโศกนาฏกรรมบนหมู่เกาะโซโลมอน ดินแดนส่วนหนึ่งของเครือจักรภพ หลังเกิดเหตุระเบิดสมัยสงครามโลกครั้งที่สองระเบิดขณะเจ้าหน้าที่ขององค์การความช่วยเหลือแห่งชาวนอร์เวย์ (เอ็นพีเอ) หน่วยงานสนับสนุนการเก็บกู้ทุ่นระเบิดในหลายประเทศทั่วโลก กำลังปฏิบัติหน้าที่ในกรุงโฮนีอารา เมื่อวันอาทิตย์ที่ 20 ก.ย. ตามเวลาท้องถิ่น
ส่งผลให้เจ้าหน้าที่เสียชีวิต 2 ราย ได้แก่ นายสตีเฟ่น แอตกินสัน ชาวอังกฤษ และนายเทรนต์ ลี ชาวออสเตรเลีย ด้านนายเปอร์ เนอร์กาอาร์ด เลขาธิการเอ็นพีเอ กล่าวว่าเหตุที่เกิดขึ้นเป็นความสูญเสียร้ายแรง และกำลังเร่งตรวจสอบ รวมทั้งหาสาเหตุที่แน่ชัด
ทั้งนี้ หมู่เกาะโซโลมอนเป็นหนึ่งในสมรภูมิสงครามโลกครั้งที่สองระหว่างกองทัพฝ่ายสมัพันธมิตรและกองทัพญี่ปุ่น มีการทิ้งอาวุธยุทโธปกรณ์จำนวนมากไว้บนเกาะ รวมถึงระเบิด-ทุ่นระเบิดหลายพันลูก และกระสุนปืน ด้วยเหตุนี้องค์การเอ็นพีเอจึงเข้าช่วยเหลือเก็บกู้ระเบิดเพื่อเตรียมพร้อมก่อนเปิดฉากการแข่งขันกีฬาแปซิฟิกเกมส์ 2023 ซึ่งหมู่เกาะโซโลมอนเป็นเจ้าภาพ

Two men working for an aid agency which helps dispose of unexploded bombs have been killed in an explosion in the Solomon Islands. Briton Stephen Atkinson and Australian Trent Lee were employees of Norwegian People's Aid. /RSIPF/FACEBOOK/
The Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) described the explosion as a "tragic accident". Its Deputy Secretary General Per Nergaard said an "investigation needs to be completed before there can be a conclusion on the cause of events". /RSIPF/FACEBOOK/
